Active Release Techniques or ART is a movement based massage technique that is used to treat soft tissue problems including the muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia, and nerves. Headaches, back pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, shin splints, shoulder pain, sciatica, plantar fasciitis, knee problems, and tennis elbow are just a few of the many conditions that can be treated using ART. These conditions all have one important thing in common: they are often a result of overused muscles. In ART, the therapist uses his or her hands to evaluate the texture, tightness and movement of muscles, fascia, tendons, ligaments and nerves in the problem area. Abnormal tissues are treated by applying tension to the appropriate areas in combination with controlled body movements. What we do:
Nerve Entrapment (Ne)
This is used to treat patients with shooting pains, numbness, or tingling, in any part of the body.
Spine (Sp)
Spinal treatment is used on patients experiencing any pain or discomfort along the spine.
Lower Extremity (Le)
The lower extremities are defined as anything between the hip and feet. Examples of lower extremity issues include conditions like plantar fasciitis, runner's knee and hip pain.
Upper Extremity (Ue)
These conditions include problems related to the shoulders, arms, and hands. Rotator cuff syndrome and carpal tunnel are examples of common upper extremity problems. If you are experiencing an issue between the shoulder and the neck, you may also benefit from spinal ART.
